I’ve been playing with some photoshop actions and techniques lately, trying to “art up” some of my wildflower photographs.
I purhased a set of actions from Michael Soo‘s excellent website this week, and they’re proving to be very good, especially the B&W conversion and toning ones, as well as a soft blur effect.
I thought the columbine above came out pretty well in sepia! Funny, since it’s such a colorful flower to begin with, but it has a pleasing shape as well.
Likewise I thought this English Plantain works well, but here more beacuse it’s not particularly colorful to begin with.
I’m not 100% sold on this particular farme, as it’s a little large, but it’s what I have for now. Does anyone know of a good source for free/cheap Photoshop frame actions?
What do you think of the images above? I posted a few more in a Flickr set.
first one is fine!
Really Gorgeous!
Thanks, joka & paperseedblog! The first one is my favorite as well, as the backgrounds on the others aren’t as uniform as I’d like (and I’m too lazy to mask them out in PS).
Wow what a nice touch – I keep playing with sepia however it never turns out as soft as this (I agree with the first comment -your first flower almost makes a person want to snuggle in it – I’ve never felt envious of bumblebees until now!) :o) Really lovely shots Adam!
Adam, wonderful series of photos in Sepia! I always have a hard time turning photos into black and white or sepia! But without a doubt you know how to pick the perfect flowers for this!
Thanks, Aullori & Tom!
Aullori: I didn’t just sepia-tone these – I also applied a soft-glow filter, selective sharpening, and a little dodging & burning.
Tom: You’re right – my previous attempts at B&W flowers haven’t been very successful – I’ll have to keep at it, though, as it’s fun to play with them in Photoshop!
