Yesterday was gorgeous, so I swung by the baylands again on my way home from work. There were mostly the usual suspects albeit a lot of them, but a female red-breasted merganser was a first for me. Too bad she was alone, as I”d have liked to have seen a breeding plumage drake.
In total, I saw:
American Avocet
American Coot
Black Phoebe
Black-necked Stilt
Brewer’s Blackbird
Double-crested Cormorant
Great Egret
Greater? Scaup
House Sparrow
Mallard (both domestic & wild)
Marbled Godwit
Mourning Dove
Northern Shoveler
Pied-billed Grebe
* Red-breasted Merganser
Ring-billed Gull
Ring-necked Pheasant
Rock Pigeon
Ruddy Duck (including one rare black variant)
Snowy Egret
Song Sparrow
Yellow-rumped Warbler
White-crowned Sparrow
White-tailed Kite
