Oops sorry Tom & Ann - your comments were in my limbo box for some reason.

Tom: Thanks!

Ann: Welcome! Sure, I'm hiking at least a couple times a month - check back here, as I nearly always post photos & info from my hikes. What I have not been doing is keeping my archives up to date. I haven't been following Chowhound much at all lately - too much else to keep up with. I do still live in SF, however....

Montucky: Thanks! I wish I had been able to see the Steamer-Ducks steaming, but they were just sitting on the rock for quite some time.

BrianR: Glad you like it - I certainly enjoy writing these.

Jennifer: Thank you - if you ever have the chance, it's hard to conceive of a nicer natural vacation place than Patagonia!

ScienceGuy: Yep, rheas are relatives of the ostrich, but considerably smaller (at least the Lesser Rheas in this area - Greater Rheas are larger, but still not nearly ostrich-sized). I was very happy that we saw Andean Condors practically every day were were in Patagonia, although this was by far our closest look at them.

A perfect sunrise. Glad your injury seems to be subsided. The birds are amazing. The rhea look like South American versions of ostriches and the Andean Condor and Imperial Cormorant are simply amazing birds. I'm glad you saw the condor in person. What an amazing bird.

The sunrise photos are sensational! Wonderful capture! The scenery there is terrific, but I'm fascinated by their wildlife. I was captivated by the steamer ducks!
