Lori: I'm glad you enjoyed it! The Rufous-collared Sparrow was such a cutie - as common as Song Sparrows here, but a good deal fancier!

I enjoyed the dialog as well - fascinating conversational tone to your writing here. Meanwhile, I love these bird shots. I've been out and about almost everyday and I can see your lens you took paid off really well! I love that Rufous-collared Sparrow what a darling! It's amazing to attempt to do a comparison to the birds I see daily and with that funky head it's impossible. Really cool shots! I laughed out loud at your dog comment as I have three pups that make birding extremely difficult too. Either they are flushing them so fast I can't see them or they just spook them away automatically. Again Brilliant shots Adam. p.s. that black-faced Ibis shot is just gorgeous!

Bernie: Thanks - we spent plenty of quality time with both the Lapwings and the bar :-)

Kiris Pupis: Hmm, winter's not a good time to be in Patagonia - even if you wanted to brave the weather (which I wouldn't), nearly all of the hotels and such close for the season. Of course I'd love to go to Antarctica someday, but it's still a pretty long ways from S. America, and /very/ expensive.

Mary: Thank you! The Lapwing was definitely one of my favorite birds of the trip, and it was a common lawn bird in much of Patagonia. They are chattery birds as well, and have a very loud call.

Klaus: Welcome to my blog, and thanks for the compliment!

Great looking birds, Adam - and, of course, superb photos. I guess my favorites would be the Southern Lapwing with its red eyes and contrasting plumage on its chest and face. Another favorite was the Yellow-billed Pintail - love that mohawk! ;o)

Great shots! I have two coworkers from Chile and one from Argentina and that part of the world is very high on my list. Unfortunately due to my kids' school we can only visit during the summer - which as you know is their winter. Shame because the #1 place on my 4 year old's list is Antarctica - which isn't too pleasant in the winter. :(

Montucky: Thanks - that Ibis was one of my favorite birds of the trip (of quite a few favorite birds :)

Sandpiper: Great, I'm glad to hear that, and thanks for the compliment!

Scienceguy: We didn't visit Tierra del Fuego, but rather southern continental Patagonia (El Calafate (Argentina), Puerto Natales (Chile), Torres del Paine (Chile), and Punta Arenas (Chile)) and Buenos Aires. Would have loved to go to TdF, but it's a pain logistically to get to Ushuaia, the main city in TdF, from Chile. A good reason to return!
